[CYPRUS TIMES] Famous astrophysicist debunks Santa Claus and causes reactions

It's not the first time he's been criticized "He was provoked in 2014 and 2019"

The famous astrophysicist Neil de Grasse Tyson on Christmas Eve devoted himself to posting messages in a attempt to demystify Santa Claus with facts that completely contradict the course of the Saint, his workshop, the reindeer, the sleigh, the North Pole and many other things associated with the myth of the most famous Saint.

Since the Northern Arctic is just ocean, Santa's North Pole workshop has only ever existed on a floating sheet of ice.

"There was no Santa Claus"

"Since the North Arctic is just an ocean in which only sheets of ice float, Santa's laboratory at the North Pole could never exist. Images depicting Santa's laboratory with pine trees and snow-capped hills on the horizon are geographically incomplete," Tyson claimed in one tweet, while in another he wrote that Santa's reindeer could not have antlers because in mature male reindeer the antlers fall off in December.

Santa doesn't know Zoology:

Both male & female Reindeer grow antlers. But all male Reindeer lose their antlers in the late fall, well-before Christmas.

So Santa's reindeer, which all sport antlers, are therefore all female, which means Rudolf has been misgendered. pic.twitter.com/03skVxyYRE

"It would disintegrate and evaporate"

He also wrote that Santa's sleigh "would disintegrate and evaporate if it traveled at those supersonic speeds that tradition wants it to. Tyson also mentioned that Santa could be trapped by melting ice and encouraged children not to offer him carrots and celery so that Santa would become "much, much thinner".

Although some Tyson fans found his tweets entertaining and educational, others were less forgiving of Tyson's attempt to demolish the myth of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve - comparing the astrophysicist to the "Grinch" (a green terrors version of the evil Santa Claus).

"No miracle will silence him"

"This is why people don't like atheists. Are you posting this on Christmas Eve?"

One Twitter user wrote, while another wrote: "Even a Christmas miracle would not silence this man."

Others tried to explain to Tyson that Santa Claus and his sleigh are "magical and therefore not subject to the otherwise unquestionable laws of physics" and told the astrophysicist to "get caught up" with other topics.

"He had caused controversy in 2014 and 2019"

This isn't the first time Tyson has sparked controversy at Christmas. In 2014, Tyson was accused of insulting Christians after he posted a message on December 25 that read: "On this day long ago, a child was born who, at 30, would change the world. Happy Birthday Isaac Newton December 25, 1642."

On Christmas Day 2019, Tyson also wished "Muslims, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Pagans and Jews" a "Happy Wednesday". Jewish social media users accused Tyson of being ignorant, pointing out that Christmas is also a Jewish holiday.
