Yesterday Russia's media watchdog Roskomnadzor introduced some restrictions on access to Facebook, accusing it of "violating the fundamental human rights and freedoms of Russian citizens"
Facebook's "dispute" with the Russian authorities is in full swing.
Following yesterday's imposition of a "partial restriction" on Russians' access to the social networking medium, today Facebook "responded" by imposing an advertising and revenue securing ban on Russian state media. The news was confirmed by the social network's head of cybersecurity Nathaniel Gleicher, stating that Facebook is "closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine."
"We now ban Russian state media from advertising or generating revenue on our platform from anywhere in the world," he wrote on Twitter.
RIA Novosti and other Russian media outlets have already received a notice stating that "your page's ability to earn revenue is limited due to revenue generation violations."
Earlier, Russia's media oversight agency Roskomnadzor introduced some restrictions on access to Facebook after its parent company Meta Platforms, which owns the social network, failed to meet the agency's demands to unblock censored material from the Zvezda TV channel, RIA Novosti and Lenta websites.ru" and "Gazeta.ru".
