European leaders will discuss a package of new sanctions against Russia at an extraordinary meeting later today, the EU said in a statement.

"European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will present a new package of measures to be finalised by the European Commission and adopted directly by the Council," the statement said.

These "additional restrictive measures () will provide for massive and serious consequences for Russia for its actions," it added.
