Russia is ready for a second round of negotiations with Ukraine, according to statements made by Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday.
"However, for the time being, Kiev is moving according to Washington's instructions," the Russian foreign minister said in an interview with Aljazeera.
Lavrov fused the issue of nuclear weapons, stating that "the Third World War could be nuclear and destructive."
He continued: "US President (Joe) Biden is an experienced man and has stated in the past that the only alternative to sanctions is world war."
On the Russian operation in Ukraine, he said: "The military operation in Ukraine, including in Kiev, is aimed at disarming Ukraine. Russia will not allow Ukraine to acquire nuclear weapons."
Return US nuclear weapons in Europe back to the US
Yesterday, Lavrov had said that Russia considers it unacceptable for US nuclear weapons to be in Europe. "The time has come for them to go back to the US," Russia's foreign minister said in a taped speech at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, according to Ria Novosti.
Lavrov in his speech had pointed out that Kiev is seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, calling it a real danger that must be prevented. "Ukraine still has Soviet technologies and means to obtain such weapons," he said. "We cannot fail to respond to this real danger."
