Package of targeted measures by EU and freeze of Nord Stream 2 by Germany announced by Borel

The unanimous adoption by the 27 member states of a series of targeted measures against Russia in response to the recognition of the breakaway regions of Ukraine and the ongoing threat to the territorial integrity of the country, announced High Representative Josep Borel after the informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers held in Paris.

Themeasures include adding all members of the Duma who voted in favour of recognising the two regions to the EU sanctions list, as well as targeted sanctions on decision-makers and entities, banks involved in the region.

The EU's economic relations with the two breakaway regions are also severed, as in the case of Crimea, and Russia's ability to access EU financial markets is cut off.

Mr. Borel also referred to Germany's decision to end work on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
