EU initiative for the solution is called for by the Turkish Cypriot Platform Federal Cyprus What they say in a letter

Letter informing the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the European Parliament Office in Cyprus and the Cypriot MEPs about the events in occupied Cyprus, was sent by the Cyprus Federal Cyprus Platform.

According to the GMP, the letter states that human rights are at the top of the EU's values and expresses regret that the EU "remains apathetic to the violation of the human rights of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, who are EU citizens".

"The properties of the Greek Cypriots, who were forced to be displaced in order to protect their right to life due to the war in 1974, were taken out of their hands and given to the population transferred to the island from Turkey in violation of the 1949 Geneva Convention. The EU and the other states of the world remained silent on this violation of human rights and this war crime."

The Platform adds that the political will of Turkish Cypriots living in the northern part of the island in the territories under Turkish sovereignty "has been taken out of our hands by using the population that was transferred here and turned into citizens of the illegal state of the TRNC. The elections held for show are supporting political parties and individuals collaborating with Turkey."

The regime in Turkey under Erdogan's presidency opposes the reunification of Cyprus with a federal solution and is blocking it with the two-state solution model, which is against the UN parameters, it noted.

"The EU, which does not show the necessary reaction to human rights violations and illegal practices in Turkey, on the Cyprus issue overlooks the problems of European Turkish Cypriot citizens, which stem from Turkey's continued occupation since 1974. This attitude of the EU is in conflict with its own principles. Its silence on this issue is not acceptable."

It is our right and your duty to expect you to make efforts to make our country an island of peace in the Eastern Mediterranean, to make its people happy and acquire universal human rights, the T/C platform states in its letter.

We look forward to your contribution to finding a solution in Cyprus on the basis of human rights and in accordance with the UN parameters and we wish you success in your work, it concludes.
