Commenting on the developments and the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Turkish president recalled that once Greece and other neighbouring countries of Turkey, were part of his country
And amidst the general turmoil, Tayyip Erdogan remembered Turkey's neighboring countries, including Greece, which until the beginning of the last century was part of his own country.
Commenting on the developments and the Russian attack on Ukraine, the Turkish president defended Turkey's European identity, saying that it is not only part of Europe because of Eastern Thrace, but also because of its history and culture.
"Turkey, and I say this leaving aside the other pages of its history, has been a European country since the first century of the Ottomans. Territories on which today many European countries are located, until the beginning of the last century, were parts of our homeland. And today, in addition to our historical and social ties with the region of Thrace, we are an integral part of Europe," said the Turkish President, who, even in these difficult times for the European continent, is not leaving aside his neo-Ottoman references.
