"Turkish Cypriots are being held politically hostage by Turkey."

The General Secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Teachers' Guild, Sener Eljil, saying he was protecting the rights of Turkish Cypriots, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had transferred to Qatar for $20 billion his "right" to drill in Cyprus' territorial waters.

According to Avrupa, as reported by the Press and Information Office, in a written statement issued yesterday, Mr. Eljil said that with the fact that ifor $20 billion Turkey remained silent on the Qatar Petroleum company's exploration in Block 5 of the Cypriot EEZ, we are witnessing the best example of the fact that Turkish Cypriots are being held politically hostage by Turkey.

Noting that President Erdogan and the Justice and Development Party (AKP) are doing politics through the rights of Turkish Cypriots at a time when they have driven them into poverty by forcing them to use the Turkish lira (TL), Eljil points out that "today it is better understood why the politics of the blue homeland and the two separate sovereign states were put on the table."
