Erdogan asked the EU to recognize the entity of the TCs Erdoğan accused the EU of acting blindly as a representative of the and ignoring the rights of the TCs
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has asked the EU for recognition of the T/C entity[/B], calling on EU Ambassadors in Ankara to take his messages to Brussels and their capitals.
He also called on them to convey the Turkish proposal presented in Geneva on the Cyprus problem, otherwise, he argued, it would be seen as a new waste of time, a tactic and a waste of energy.
The Turkish President accused the EU of acting blindly as a representative of the E/C and ignoring the rights of the TCs. The double standards applied have brought us to the point where it is a waste of time trying to dry his clothes today in yesterday's sunshine, he said.
Speaking at a meeting with ambassadors of EU member states in Ankara, the Turkish president said it has become important in every respect to promote Turkey's relations with the EU.
We have made an effort in favor of dialogue and diplomacy. I am sorry to say that we did not get the response we expected from the EU. A diversionary tactic was used against us. The main thing to consider is the surrender of the interests of the Union to the ambitions of many countries. It is not realistic to expect migration pressure to decrease if the current crises in Europe and Turkey are not resolved, the Turkish President said.
Alluding to Greece, the Turkish President said that "in this process, the episodes of repulsion and illegal behaviour towards migrants must end."
"We expect Europe to raise more conscientious voices regarding the events in the Aegean."
"We expect Europe to raise more conscientious voices regarding the events in the Aegean. We need to make progress on visa liberalisation in the coming period. Last year we opened channels of dialogue with neighbouring Greece. I sincerely believe that we will settle the issues between us," he said.
On the Cyprus issue, the Turkish President said that Turkey's view on the Cyprus problem is clear.
It is clear why the 50-year-old negotiation process has not been resolved. The E/C have not been able to get rid of the mentality that the island belongs to them. While the EU acts blindly as the representative of the E/C, it ignores the rights of the TCs. The double standards applied have brought us to the point where it is a waste of time trying to dry his clothes today in yesterday's sunshine," the Turkish President said.
Tayyip Erdogan said that "we continue to make efforts with 'tdvk' to resolve the Cyprus problem on the basis of realities for the benefit of all sides."
It will pave the way for the registration of the solution of sovereign equality and equal international status of the 'T/q people'. Such a solution will also contribute to the development of the environment of cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is time for the EU to give an honest account. If the EU wants to contribute to the solution, it must recognise the entity and the will of the TCs. The EU must keep its promises made in 2004 in assessing the proposal presented in Geneva. Otherwise, it will be seen as a new waste of time, a tactic and a waste of energy."
According to the Turkish President, "despite the injustices we face, the EU remains our strategic priority."
"In light of these experiences, Turkey, which is part of the European continent, is committed to the goal of becoming a full member of the EU."
"In the light of these experiences, Turkey, which is part of the European continent, is committed to the goal of becoming a full member of the EU. We have accelerated our work for the period 2021-2023. We have ratified the Paris Climate Agreement. We are ready to strengthen our cooperation with the EU. I ask you to convey to both Brussels and your capitals that Turkey is preparing a new page with the EU," the Turkish President told the Ambassadors of EU member states in Ankara.
