The jury deliberated for five long days before finding Maxwell guilty on all but one charge. She faces multiple years in prison. The verdict capped a month-long trial that included testimony about the sexual exploitation of girls as young as 14.
The verdict delivered justice for his victims long overdue, Bloomberg reports. "The road to justice was too long," said Manhattan District Attorney Damian Williams, whose office prosecuted the case. "But, today, justice was served. I want to commend the bravery of the girls, now grown women, who came out of the shadows and into the courtroom. Their courage and willingness to confront their abuser made this case and today's outcome possible," she said."
Defence lawyer Bobby Steinheim, for his part, told reporters in court on Wednesday night that an appeal will be filed. "We strongly believe in Gislain's innocence," he said. "Obviously we are very disappointed with the verdict. We have already started working on the appeal and we are confident that she will be vindicated."
