The EU is quick to announce sanctions against Russia but does not follow the same policy against Turkey which for 47 years has illegally occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus that are EU territories. This is stated in a statement by the social democratic party EDEK in which it refers to the dysfunctional situation in Ukraine.
"We are particularly concerned about the developments in Ukraine. We fully understand Ukraine's demands for the safeguarding of its sovereign rights and territorial independence. But we must also note that NATO cannot cause destabilization in the region and put peace at risk. Therefore, a diplomatic solution must be found."
At the same time, he adds, we cannot ignore the attitude of our European partners who are quick to announce sanctions against Russia but do not follow the same policy against Turkey, which for 47 years has illegally occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus that are essentially EU territories.
