In a post on his Twitter account, the President of the Republic warmly congratulated Ms Metsola on her election as the new President of the European Parliament, noting: "Best wishes for your success as you take on the responsibilities and challenges of your highest office. I look forward to working with you, dear Roberta," he added, wishing her success in Maltese as well.
In addition, President Anastasiades, quoting the excerpt from the maiden speech of Mrs. Metsola's maiden speech as the new President of the European Parliament, in which she referred to the division of Cyprus, described her speech as inspiring.
Also, in a post on Twitter, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides congratulated Metsola on her election. "Best wishes from Cyprus. Strong leadership for a strong future of the European Parliament," he added.
