End of an era and beginning of another for the iconic Hilton Athens, which is closing to be transformed into a luxury complex. The Athenian landmark opened its doors in 1963, was fully renovated in 2003, is one of the city's most important landmarks and will be redeveloped in order to be transformed into a multi-dimensional destination under the Conrad brand, with a smaller bed capacity but with luxury residences and entertainment and cultural activities.
The related investment of the owner, Ionian Hotels, in infrastructure and equipment will exceed 130 million, in addition to the 145 million it has already spent since 2016 on the acquisition of the property. In total, that is, the investment will exceed 275 million. The new complex will be completed at the end of 2024. Until then, the Hilton Hotel will be closed from 31 January 2022 to the end of 2024.
The company has decided to provide strong incentives for the adoption by the approximately 300 employees of a voluntary exit program, which includes benefits much higher than the compensation provided by law and a preferential scheme for their evaluation for employment in the new hotel units that TEMES is opening in the near future on the Costa Navarino.
Today the historic hotel has 506 spacious rooms, including 34 suites. The Hilton Athens has 18 conference rooms, the largest of which can accommodate up to 1,600 people.
The hotel has 2 restaurants: the award-winning Galaxy Bar & Restaurant, which offers spectacular views of the Acropolis, and the Byzantino Restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine.
As of October 1, 2001, an operating and management contract with Hilton HELLAS MONOPROSOPO S.A. was put in place. which is the manager of the operation and management of the hotel in the name and on behalf of "IONIKI HOTELS S.A."
Hilton Athens was the headquarters of the IOC during the period of the Olympic Games ATHENS 2004.
