Eleven women in the new "parliament" 19 new faces, including Atalay and Talat's son The "map" of the new "parliament"
Nineteen new faces are entering the "parliament", women have increased from 8 to 11, and the number of lawyers has also increased. With the Renaissance Party (of the settlers) and despite the opposition his candidacy had caused, the former mufti of the TCs, Talip Atalay, was elected. In Kyrenia, his son Mehmet Ali Talat was elected with the PKK. None of the "deputies" who recently resigned from their parties and transferred to the CEC were elected.
It should be noted that due to the small number of "deputies", "parliamentary group" in the new "parliament" will have only the two major parties CEC and PKK.
Of the 11 women in the new "parliament", six were elected with the PTK, two of the three "deputies" of the CL are women and the remaining three were elected with the CEC.
Of the 19 new faces, seven are MPs in Nicosia and among them is Talip Atalay with the CA. His candidacy had also caused a reaction in Turkey, as Atalay was previously arrested and accused of being a suspected member of Fethullah Gulen's organisation. In the end there were no charges against him. But he is not generally considered a person who is close to Turkey's AKP-MHP government.
Economist Devrim Barchin, who advocated the introduction of the euro in the occupied territories, was also elected in Nicosia with the PKK.
Three new faces were elected in Famagusta and one in Morphou.
Three new faces were elected in Famagusta and one in Morphou. In Kyrenia four new faces were elected including the son of former TC leader Mehmet Ali Talat's son, Ongun. In the same "province" Serhat Akpinar, owner of the "American University" of Kyrenia, was elected with the PP. A high-ranking official of another "university", the Near East University in Nicosia, Ahmet Savasiyan, was elected for the first time with the CCP.
In Trikomo, the "mayor" of Yalousa, Emrah Yisilirmark, was elected for the first time as a "deputy" with the CCP.
In the CEC nine out of 24 "MPs" are new faces and in the PTK seven out of 18, in the CA one out of two "MPs" is a new face and in the DP one out of three. The CL re-elected three existing "deputies".
According to Kipris, the average age of the new "parliament" is 51-54 years, whereas before it was 50. In the "parliament", it adds, the number of lawyers and jurists has increased and there are also dentists, biologists, molecular biologists, music teachers, contractors, economists, international relations experts and engineers.
Kipris, like other newspapers, also notes the non-election with the CCI of the three "MPs" who had resigned from their parties to support the CCI-DP "government". They are Hassan Bougioukoglu and Hassan Gents from the CL and Bertan Zaroglu from the CA.
The "strong names" such as Gulshah Sanver Manavoglu of the CP with a party office and Aitats Tsialuda of the CEE who was a high-ranking "civil servant" and had been accused of corruption cases were also left out of the "parliament".
Objections
In the meantime, the objections procedure was completed. According to T/C media reports, the CEC's secretary general, Oguzhan Hashipoglu said that they submitted objections for mixed votes in all six "provinces."
The PKK's secretary general, Erdogan Sorakin said that they submitted objections for stamp votes (party-only) in four "provinces", Famagusta, Kyrenia, Nicosia and Morphou.
Meanwhile, within the week all parties will discuss and evaluate the result of the electoral process in their collective bodies.
On Thursday, the KDP will decide on the resignation submitted already on Sunday night by party chairman Cemal Oziyit.
