An elderly man in Thessaloniki, who shot with the rifle of a drone flying over his farm, believing he was spraying his plants, is facing justice.

A five-month jail sentence for the charge of unnecessary shooting was imposed by the Thessaloniki Trial Plenary Court on an elderly man who, in an attempt to protect his farm, which was threatened... by a drone, started shooting at it with his shotgun, as he thought it would spray his plants.

The incident occurred, according to thesstoday.gr, in the area of Thermi, where two civil engineers had been found operating the drone and photographing the adjacent farm to make models.

Then, they heard the shots of the elderly man, and immediately deactivated the drone and landed it on the ground. The elderly man, clearly upset, approached them and started swearing at them, and even threatened them with his shotgun

He claimed in court that he did not understand what he was doing at the time, and that he possessed the gun as he was a former hunter.

The two individuals who were confronted with the... unprecedented incident, during their testimony, after stating the facts, noted that they would not wish to see the defendant prosecuted.
