The Ecologists insist on investigative powers for the Anti-Corruption Authority What Alexandra Attalidou said after the Legal Affairs Committee meeting

The Ecologists insist that the Independent Anti-Corruption Authority should be given investigative powers, Alexandra Attalidou, MP of the Ecologists - Citizens' Co-operation Movement, said after the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs.

"We believe that an authority without investigative powers will be another institution that citizens will pay for and will not be effective," she said.

She added that she also recommended that the five-member board of the Authority should have a balanced gender representation of 40% from one of the two sexes. Unfortunately, he said, colleagues felt this would have a legal problem. She also expressed the view that in this new institution it should be ensured that both genders are represented, as she said only then decisions are correct and represent all citizens.

At the same time, she said she was assured by the Chairman of the Legal Committee that a legislative proposal would be tabled to do this for all organisations. She expressed the hope that this big step would be taken for equal representation of both genders in decision making bodies.

She said that she is in favour of 40% to 60% representation of both genders in all organisations and that she will submit a proposal for a law in this regard in the future.
