[CYPRUS TIMES] Dramatic appeal by Guterres to Putin: In the name of humanity, stop this war

At dawn, Putin gave the order and launched an invasion of Ukraine

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, appealed to the Russian President to stop the war in Ukraine "in the name of humanity", shortly after Vladimir Putin announced that he had ordered a military operation.

"President Putin, in the name of humanity, order your soldiers to return to Russia," Mr. Guterres after an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council devoted to the Ukrainian crisis. The consequences of this war will be devastating for Ukraine and will deal a serious blow to the global economy, the UN chief warned.
