The impact of today's nearly two thousand cases[/b] of covid disease in hospitals is being awaited by experts to determine the next steps in the management of the pandemic.


Speaking to the Cyprus[/b] Times the member of the Scientific Advisory Committee, Professor of Microbiology/Molecular Virology at the University of Nicosia Medical School, Dr. Petros Karagiannis and when asked to comment on the negative record recorded today with the detection of 1925 cases, he said that such an increase was expected, but not in such a short period of time.

As he explained, however, "this is the first time so many tests have been done."In particular, 121,127 tests were carried out to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

"We will monitor the picture and have to see if these are Omicron mutation cases or not," he said.

At the same time, Dr. Karagiannis stresses that in any case, the attention of experts regarding measures to be taken remains focused on hospitalizations. "We will see in the next few days whether the high numbers translate into an increase in patients and pressure on the health system" he noted.

He concluded by referring to data from other countries, in which there is a doubling of cases every three days. "There is no need to panic but close monitoring of the situation" he concluded.
