In the "race" for small and medium-sized enterprises and purchasing power DISY-AKEL In what virtual reality are they living in AKEL, says Dimitris Demetriou "They should feel what the majority of society is experiencing" says George Koukoumas

In the DISY-AKEL confrontation on the subject of small and medium-sized enterprises and the purchasing power of our fellow citizens.

As Dimitris Demetriou reports, AKEL has these days remembered precision, small and medium-sized enterprises and the purchasing power of our fellow citizens.

The AKEL leadership says that the government and Synergy are out of touch with reality. And one has to wonder in what virtual reality AKEL is living in.

Besides, he notes, they talk about VAT, those who increased it. They talk about the ATA, those who truncated it.

"Democratic Rally and the government are not waiting for AKEL to admonish us. We know the issues and we move forward with political proposals and solutions.

This is what we have done and this is what we will continue to do," he concludes.

AKEL:20 years behind Cypriots' purchasing power but the government... has nothing to do

Earlier, AKEL, through the mouth of George Koukoumas, said that the purchasing power of Cyprus' workers has gone back 20 years, the Cyprus Labour Institute documented in its report. At the same time, everyone admits that inflation is not expected to subside any time soon. In other words, all indications are that with every passing day the cost of living will evaporate faster than wages

As he pointed out, and yet, the government insists it has nothing to do. The Finance Minister says he will study the issue... in the coming months, confirming that those who govern are out of touch with the reality that society lives in.

AKEL puts forward three pillars that constitute a strong social shield to protect the Cypriot people.

First. Measures for accuracy, starting with the reduction of VAT on essentials and electricity, abolition of the RES tax on electricity bills, abolition of the absurd double taxation on fuel.

Second. Protect wages by fully restoring the ATA and extending it to every worker in the country.

Third. Re-regulate labour relations in our country, with legislation to enshrine collective agreements on the one hand, and to establish a minimum wage and basic benefits for workers not covered by a collective agreement on the other.

"We call on the government and the Coalition to feel what the majority of society is experiencing and take a stand against AKEL's proposals", he concludes.
