Approval of the Declaration of the Political Conference of the Democratic Party in view of the 2023 Presidential Elections
With the approval of the Political Declaration, the Political Conference of the Democratic Party was completed, the first to be held with simultaneous physical and online presence of the delegates, thus utilizing a valuable tool to enhance the party's communication with its members, technology.
The party's Political Declaration defines the framework within which DIKO will move ahead of the 2023 Presidential Elections, seeking contacts with all parliamentary forces, except ELAM, with non-parliamentary parties and organisations.
At the end of this process and when all the data will be presented to the party, collectively the final decisions will be taken.
In his speech, the President of DIKO, Mr. In his speech, President Nicolas Papadopoulos referred to the critical juncture in which the country and our people find themselves, expressing the certainty that the Democratic Party can deservedly stand up to the circumstances and respond to the urgent need for an exit from the economic, social and national deadlocks.
Referring to the content of the Political Declaration, Mr. Papadopoulos added that DIKO's goal is to make a new beginning and "to lead Cyprus to a New Era of prosperity, hope and recovery, to an era where our country will regain its lost credibility and dignity and to an era where we will restore hope for the resolution of the Cyprus problem."
Regarding the economy, Mr. Papadopoulos said that "the pandemic has brought important sectors to the brink of destruction while unemployment continues to plague Cypriot society", stressing that "Cyprus deserves a better fate".
He also said that in DIKO "we believe as never before in the prospects of the Cypriot economy and in a new model of development, with an emphasis on innovation, with incentives for start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises, with tax reforms, with the introduction of a minimum wage, with the development of higher education."
DIKO President assured that DIKO will continue to fight for the welfare state, for the radical reform of the pension system to ensure decent pensions for all, for the fight against corruption and corruption, for the proper management of the migration problem and for the liberation and reunification of our country, the preservation of the Republic of Cyprus, security and peace.
It is in this context that the Political Declaration sets out the next steps of DIKO in view of the 2023 Presidential Elections.
