Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias participated in the extraordinary meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers today via teleconference.

According to diplomatic sources, Mr. Dendias underlined in his intervention that Greece supports NATO's dialogue with Russia in the framework of the dual approach, welcoming the convening of the NATO-Russia Council next week.

According to the same sources, Dendias noted that a de-escalation is needed to achieve a meaningful dialogue, stressing that this dialogue requires time in order to achieve tangible results.

"The Foreign Minister stressed that in this dialogue our positions, which are based on common principles and respect for international law, should be stressed from the outset. The basic principle is the condemnation of any violation of the territorial integrity of states, a principle that must be respected by NATO allies in all cases, as well as by countries in partnership with NATO, especially Ukraine, which is calling for international solidarity," the diplomatic sources said.

The foreign minister also pointed out that the OSCE could play an important role in reducing tension and arms control, the same sources conclude.
