More specialized tests are underway
The findings of death from the forensic reports for Iris and Malena are made public,[/B] two of the three girls of the Daskalakis family from Patras who died within three years.
The documents brought to light by the newspaper Peloponnisos are the forensic report of the coroner Angeliki Tsiola for Iris and the expert opinion of the coroner Socrates Tsantiris for Malena.
The specific evidence shows that the deaths of Malena and Iris do not seem to have been caused by something external. Of course, more thorough and specialized examinations are already underway for all three girls, while at the same time the Homicide Department is processing and correlating new evidence that has a temporal sequence with the hospitalization of the three girls and from which key chapters for investigation have emerged.
While the two documents revealed by "P" today do not reveal anything objectionable, the investigation process still has many stages and all possibilities are open.
The report on Iris
In the forensic autopsy report conducted by the head of the Forensic Service of Patras, coroner Angeliki Tsiola, on March 22, 2021, it is stated that the unbaptized child of the Daskalakis family was found dead a day earlier, i.e. on March 21 and around 11.30 am in his crib. He was taken by an ambulance unit to Karamandaneio, where his death was formally established. Along with this, the 1st Police Station sent a towel-type cloth with traces of a substance, probably blood, which had been found in the baby's cot.
The conclusion states that no external injuries were found on the body. Furthermore, no injuries were found on the head or other parts of the body during the subsequent autopsy. The trachea was free without the presence of a foreign body, while the lungs showed evidence of pulmonary edema. No ischaemic or atherosclerotic lesions were observed in the heart. The laboratory tests were all negative for toxic and other substances.
However, in the subsequent histological examination, multiple sections taken from the heart did not microscopically identify the sinus node and atrioventricular node.
As stated in the finding, "the sinus node, a group of cells in the upper part of the right atrium of the heart, is the site of origin of an electrical impulse. Microscopically these cells are differentiated myocardial cells. They are the normal pacemaker of the heart. The atrioventricular node, is a cluster of cells in the center of the heart between the atria and ventricles. In rare cases in morphologically normal hearts, the impulse conduction system may not develop and may be a cause of death in infants and young children. As a conclusion, the death of the unbaptized girl Daskalakis was caused by hypoplasia - agenesis of the irritant system of the heart - pulmonary edema."
The report on Malena
In the conclusion of the forensic expert Socrates Tsantiris on Malena, the conclusion states the following: "Maria Eleni Daskalaki died on 13/4/2019 from unclear causes. The autopsy found no apparent cause of death, the toxicological examination found no poisoning and the histological examination found extensive cenotopic degeneration of liver cells and death was attributed to liver failure."
The expert states elsewhere in his conclusion that based on the evidence made available to him, the child's death was related to causes described above. He notes that this liver injury developed suddenly because the historical finding does not indicate chronic - pre-existing liver disease. It is also noted that the result of the histological examination records that no histopathological changes visible in the relevant document were found during the examination of the heart.
