At least three people died in severe storms that swept across Europe today, with wind speeds reaching 180 km/h, causing travel problems.
In Poland, winds of up to 125km/h caused severe damage to around 500 homes, ripped through roofs, uprooted trees and plunged 324,000 households across the country into darkness.
Two dead
Two workers were killed and two others injured when the storm toppled a crane at a construction site in Krakow (south). Another man was killed when a tree fell and landed on his car in the western part of the country.
The Czech Republic was also hit by bad weather, with more than 300,000 households without electricity, while major problems arose in transport as uprooted trees fell on roads and railway lines.
Gale-force winds, with gusts of 181 km/h, were recorded in Snezka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, in the southern part of the country.
Children injured
Three children were injured and taken to hospital after an accident in the south-western part of the country. Wind blew open the hood of a car, slamming it hard into another vehicle.
In the Netherlands, where 100 km/h wind gusts were recorded, a police officer was injured by a roof section that broke off a commercial building in Daven, near Arnhem, state broadcaster NOS reported.
Firefighters extricated two
Firefighters extricated two people from a vehicle who were injured after a tree fell in the southern city of Maaslouis.
Amsterdam's Schiphol airport reported flight delays of up to 45 minutes, while rail services were cancelled.
In Britain, Storm Dudley caused travel problems yesterday, although damage was not extensive.
Rare weather alert
Today Britain's Met Office issued a rare "red weather" alert for Storm Younis, with accompanying wind gusts of up to 100 miles per hour.
