The Cyprus issue, the Turkish position, the Ukrainian issue and the UK-Greece cooperation, Dendias and Heaton-Harris discussed
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and British Secretary of State for European Affairs Chris Heaton-Harris held an extensive discussion on issues of international and bilateral interest, including the Cyprus problem, on Monday afternoon at the Forrester House in London.
Regarding the Cyprus issue and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, diplomatic sources said that Mr. Dendias placed particular emphasis on Turkey's position and detailed Greek positions to Mr. Hitton-Harris, who took office last December.
On the Ukraine crisis, Mr. Dendias noted the need to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all states, as well as the importance of maintaining channels of communication with Moscow.
The Greek Foreign Minister also highlighted the need to protect expatriates in Ukraine, referring to his recent visit to Mariupol.
Dendias and Heaton-Harris also touched on the UK's relations with the European Union in the post-Brexit era.
They also discussed the closer bilateral cooperation envisaged by the Memorandum of Understanding on the Strategic Bilateral Framework signed by Mr. Dendias and Ms. Truss at the Forrester Foundation last October.
The British Secretary of State for Europe expressed via Twitter his pleasure at the meeting, adding that regional issues such as Ukraine and "continuing to promote UK-Greece ties under the framework we signed in October" were discussed.
Mr. Dendias will travel to Rome on Tuesday where he will meet with double accredited ambassadors of dozens of countries, mainly from Africa and Latin America, in order to promote Greece's candidacy for election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term.
