Although with reservations, Cyprus has proceeded to close its airspace to Russian aircraft following the decisions taken at the teleconference of the foreign ministers of the EU member-states.
According to the Cyprus Times, four flights to and from Larnaca from Russian airports were cancelled today. These were three passenger flights and one private flight. There was no flight today to and from Paphos airport.
It should be noted that during this period there would be a total of 22 flights per week to and from Cyprus airports from Russian airports.
The situation is constantly being assessed by Hermes Airport.
It is recalled that due to the closure of Ukraine's airports last week, the flights that were due to take place have also been cancelled. A total of 12 flights to and from Ukraine from Cypriot airports would have been operated.
Meanwhile, regarding the closure of European airspace, Cyprus has given its consent, expressing a reservation of the right to reconsider if Turkey refuses by attempting to instrumentalize the decision.
As stated in the relevant statement, "the Foreign Minister noted that our consent is given with the reservation of our right to reconsider and/or review the implementation of this decision, should Turkey refuse to proceed with the closure of its own airspace and proceed with the instrumentalisation of this European decision in order to attract and/or transfer Russian citizens to the occupied territories".
