Cyprus-EU sign agreement on migrant returns, Memorandum of Understanding to be signed soon
Cyprus and the EU have signed an agreement, for the first time, governing migrant returns and a Memorandum of Understanding is expected to be signed soon, under which all actions for successful management of the migration issue will be underpinned.
The agreement, according to the Cyprus News Agency, was co-signed on Tuesday in Nicosia by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Nouris and Deputy Director General of the EU Directorate General for Migration and Home Affairs Beate Gminder.
Gminder said that the EU recognises the huge problem and challenges Cyprus faces and will continue to provide support.
The EUSR stressed that we look forward to more effective support to manage the situation.
