Dialogue and diplomatic solutions to settle disputes are preferred by Cyprus and S. Arabia

Cyprus and Saudi Arabia stressed, in connection with the crisis in Ukraine, the importance of settling disputes by peaceful means, giving priority to dialogue and diplomatic solutions, and making every effort to de-escalate and defuse the situation, restore security, stability and limit the negative consequences of this crisis.

A Joint Statement of Cyprus and Saudi Arabia, issued at the conclusion of the official visit of the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades, to Riyadh, stated that the two sides reaffirmed their full support to all efforts aimed at de-escalating and resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Regarding the Cyprus issue, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirmed its principled position and the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means and dialogue, in accordance with the rules of international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The Cypriot side also condemned the terrorist attacks with ballistic missiles and drones by the Houthi terrorist militia against vital facilities and infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

With regard to bilateral relations between Cyprus and Saudi Arabia, the Joint Statement noted that the two sides expressed their satisfaction with the level of bilateral relations and underlined the importance of developing them in all areas to serve common interests and enhance mutual benefits.

To this end, the two sides reaffirmed their willingness to work towards the development of an Action Plan with strategic orientation and practical results to further strengthen the existing excellent relations.

Regarding the economic sector, the two sides underlined the need to increase economic cooperation through enhancing and diversifying trade and investment exchanges, and exploring the opportunities offered by Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and Cyprus' Vision 2035 and further cooperation between the private sector of the two countries to discuss and encourage trade and investment opportunities and translate them into concrete partnerships.



The two sides also underlined the strategic objective of their Governments to create a fertile environment to stimulate investment in various sectors in both countries through the launch of various joint initiatives, including in the areas of culture, antiquities, food, pharmaceuticals, digitalization, cybersecurity and financial services.

They also agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation in civil aviation, maritime transport, air transport and ports.

The two sides also agreed to explore areas of joint cooperation in a number of energy sectors, including petrochemicals, energy sufficiency, electricity, renewable energy, innovation, clean hydrocarbon technologies, low-carbon fuels, including hydrogen, and to work on the positioning of energy sector products and related supply chains. In addition to developing projects related to these sectors to contribute to the sustainability of global energy supply demand.

The two sides also expressed their ambition to strengthen their cooperation to implement their climate change initiatives. They also stressed the importance of increasing the pace of cooperation in tourism and the development of tourism activities in the two countries, exploring the tourism potential of each country, and promoting cooperation in sustainable tourism for the benefit and development of the tourism sector.
