Cypriot MEPs are asking the Commission whether it is aware of the "persecution" of Mr. Kishmir
Cypriot MEPs have sent a written question to the European Commission about the "trial" being launched for opposition Turkish Cypriot journalist Ali Kishmir.
MEPs Dimitris Papadakis, Costas Mavridis, George George Georgiou, Niyazi Kiziliyurek, Lefteris Christoforou and Loukas Fourla refer to the "prosecution" of Mr. Kishmir in the occupied territories on the occasion of an opinion article published during the "presidential elections" and stress that Ankara and its partners in the occupied territories are making "efforts to silence and intimidate journalists and progressive TCs, violating the right to freedom of opinion and expression".
Cypriot MEPs ask the Commission whether it is aware of the "persecution" of Mr Kishmir. They also ask to be informed about the measures the Commission is "prepared to take to protect journalists in the Turkish Cypriot community who are EU citizens."
