The cynicism of the perpetrator is provocative, as he seems to have claimed at first that his wife fell and hit him.

The new details that have come to light about the femicide in Ioannina cause dismay.

The cynicism of the perpetrator is provocative, as he seems at first to have claimed that his wife fell and hit.

"Call an ambulance Susan fell down and hurt herself," the 69-year-old man who allegedly beat his wife to death in Ioannina told a neighbour.

In fact, according to neighbours, the couple argued frequently, while residents described the 69-year-old as a "bad and difficult" man.

It all started just before 9pm on Sunday night (20.02.2022).

A fight[/B] seems to have broken out between the couple which went out of control, with the 69-year-old beating his partner, who is ten years older than him, savagely.

The woman of American nationality who was married to the 69-year-old alleged perpetrator lived in Ioannina, and until yesterday police authorities had not dealt with the couple on domestic violence issues before.

"The 69-year-old is a difficult and bad person and often argued with his neighbours. But they never had fights as a couple. Susan was nice and quiet. They lived in America and two years ago they returned to Ioannina," said a neighbour of the couple.

After brutally beating the 79-year-old woman, the 69-year-old then turned to a neighbour who asked him to call the ambulance. Indeed, as newsit.gr reports, she told her that Susan had hit her head after a fall in the house.

The woman immediately alerted the Emergency Center. Shortly before nine o'clock last night, an ambulance arrived at the scene. Rescuers who rushed inside the apartment saw the woman lying on the floor with bruises on her face. They found that she was dead and immediately alerted the police authorities.

The police officers, who did not believe what the 69-year-old man had initially said as the cause of his wife's death, immediately led him to the Ioannina Security Subdirectorate. There the perpetrator changed what he had initially claimed.

"We had a fight and I hit her. But I didn't want to kill her," he said during the preliminary questioning.

A case for manslaughter was filed against the perpetrator, and he is expected to be brought before the prosecutor.
