Criminal prosecution of a private health professional after patients' complaints, the Attorney General has decided which offences he is facing
The criminal prosecution of a private health professional, contracted with GESY and registered with OAI, was decided by the Attorney General of the Republic, after investigation of relevant complaints by the Police, after it became apparent that a combination of activities was registered in the GHS on behalf of the defendant's company, for which a claim for payment was submitted, but these were not carried out.
Specifically, the complaints against the private health care professional were made by patients who complained to the OAI that the doctor in question registered a fictitious number of specific health care services in their portion of the GIS.
The investigative work that followed revealed that a combination of activities for the provision of specific health care services, for which a claim was submitted, was registered on behalf of the defendant's company, without those services having been provided to the patients.
From the available testimony and evidence, the private doctor allegedly committed offences of corruption, money laundering, preparation of documents without authority, falsification of registers and records, fraud and misappropriation of property by false representation.
