The perpetrator confessed to the crime and described to the police how he stabbed the Greek journalist to death
The details surrounding the murder of the Greek journalist and APPE-MPE correspondent are shocking, Nikos Katsikas in his apartment in Cairo's Sheikh Zayed district with motives other than robbery appearing to be sexual.
According to the Egyptian media, the perpetrator, who has been arrested and has confessed to his act, faces serious charges.
In his apology, the young man, who worked as a food distributor at a restaurant that the Greek correspondent frequently visited, revealed to the authorities details about his acquaintance with the journalist and what happened on the day of the murder.
According to the online version of the Ahram newspaper, which cited a judicial source, the maze of revelations began to unfold a few 24 hours ago when Nikos Katsikas' neighbours alerted the police as a foul smell was emanating from inside his apartment. Coupled with the fact that they had not seen him for days
and had not heard from him, the police realized that something bad had happened to him.
So without wasting any time, they went to the journalist's apartment, where they found him in a pool of blood. The prosecutor was immediately called to the scene, who found that the victim had Greek citizenship.
From the ensuing investigation, it did not take long for the perpetrator to be identified and as a result, police officers from the Giza Security Directorate in Egypt quickly got on his trail and arrested him. He confessed to the murder and revealed that he had met the victim at the restaurant where he worked and they had exchanged phone numbers. to the floor and stabbing him to death.
The accused also admitted that after making sure that Nikos Katsikas was dead, he grabbed the sum of 260 euros, 3 mobile phones and some of the victim's belongings and then fled the scene.
But apart from the confession of the perpetrator, the authorities are also awaiting the results of the autopsy - necropsy performed on the body of the Greek correspondent by the Egyptian forensic service in order to have the full picture of the circumstances of the crime.
The 56-year-old journalist was a correspondent for the Athens News Agency since 2016 and also worked for many years with ERT. Nikos Katsikas was an active member of the Greek community in Egypt, founded the newspaper "Light in Cairo" and edited the monthly edition of the "Alexandrian Postman" in Alexandria. He was also vice-president of the Greek Cultural Centre of Cairo.
