Increasing infections and deaths from coronavirus worldwide, at a time when many European countries, Canada and Australia are relaxing restrictive measures.

Countries lift restrictions

Denmark

became the first EU member state to lift all restrictions imposed on the pandemic, relying on the high vaccination coverage of its population and the lower severity of the Omicron variant.

Israel

on Thursday abolished green passes to enter some public places, further relaxing the restrictions it had imposed as it saw a decline in the number of new cases of covid-19.

With the number of Omicron-attributable cases receding, Portugal announced that it is to lift the remaining restrictions, including the mandatory display of a digital vaccination pass for hotel stays.

The Netherlands is moving towards lifting all restrictions from 25 February. Bars, restaurants and nightclubs will return to pre-pandemic opening hours and masks will no longer be mandatory in most places.

The government in France is removing the mandatory wearing of masks in enclosed public places, where a vaccination pass is required to enter.

Switzerland[/B] lifted almost all pandemic restrictions from Thursday. The government announced that only the requirement to wear a mask on public transport and in health infrastructure will remain in force. Shops, restaurants and cultural venues will be freely accessible.

Canada[/B] announced the lifting of health restrictions at its borders, notably the mandatory PCR test to enter the country, while Quebec will phase out the vaccination certificate.

In Australia in Sydney and other cities in New South Wales, closed areas will allow entry to as many customers as they want and will only require a vaccination pass to be shown in high-risk areas. Masks will only be compulsory on public transport and indoors in hospitals and airports from 25 February...
