Costas Kadis at the United Nations Special Session on the Environment
The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis, is leaving tonight for Nairobi, Kenya, where he will represent Cyprus at the Special Session "UNEP@50" of the United Nations Environment Assembly.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture, the overall theme of "UNEP@50" is the strengthening of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in relation to the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Among the objectives of the Summit, as noted, is the preparation of the United Nations General Assembly on the Environment, which will be held in Stockholm on 2-3 June 2022. This will mark the 50th anniversary of the creation of UNEP, which was created in 1972 to play a leading role in protecting the environment by setting the global environmental agenda, encouraging cooperation among states and promoting coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development.
During his stay in Nairobi, Mr. Kadis will hold bilateral meetings, as well as a private meeting with His Eminence Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi and Exarch of Kenya, the statement concludes.
