Completion of Foreign Minister's meetings and contacts in New York

Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides' contacts and meetings in New York, where he participated in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, were completed on Monday.

A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it was a week full of substance, contacts and results.

In particular, Mr. Kasoulides held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from Armenia, Ukraine, Andorra, Andorra, Egypt, Greece, Iceland, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, India, Algeria and Morocco.

In bilateral meetings with the Foreign Ministers of Guyana and San Marino, Mr. Casoulides signed separate Memoranda of Understanding to deepen political dialogue and political consultations between the two parties.

He also met with the US Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, in the presence of the Assistant Secretary of State for Energy of the US State Department, Geoffrey Pyatt, where they discussed, inter alia, the upgraded strategic relationship between Cyprus and the US following the lifting of the embargo, as well as energy issues.

Mr. Kasoulides also met with the head of the American Jewish Committee, David Harris, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Angel Moratinos. Kasoulides' bilateral contacts focused, inter alia, on bilateral relations and the examination of ways to further deepen them, current developments at regional, European and international level, the reunification process of Cyprus as well as other issues of common interest.

The Foreign Minister participated in the meeting of the President of the Council of Europe with the UN Secretary General and attended the working lunch hosted by Cyprus in the presence of the Permanent Representatives of the 5 Permanent Members of the Security Council.

In addition, Mr. Kasoulides participated in three separate trilateral meetings of the Foreign Ministers of Cyprus - Greece - Armenia, Cyprus - Greece - Egypt and Cyprus - Greece - Serbia. They exchanged views on the next steps and ways to maintain political momentum in trilateral cooperation. In the trilateral meeting with Armenia, Mr. Kasoulides expressed Cyprus' support and solidarity with the Armenian people following the attacks by Azerbaijan.

The Foreign Minister also participated with thematic interventions in meetings held in the framework of the General Assembly's High Level Week with specific themes such as UN Peacekeeping Operations, combating online sexual violence and child exploitation, as well as in a special meeting organized by the Foreign Minister of India on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of India's independence and its long-standing contribution to the UN.

Mr. Kasoulides was interviewed by the Bloomberg television network and participated in events organized by Greek and Cypriot expatriate organizations.
