Union of Communities ready to work for smooth clustering Notes disagreements with N/C "The new legal framework for communities does not provide the required administrative autonomy"

The readiness to work for clustering is expressed in a statement by the Union of Communities which welcomes the passing of the local government bills "despite all its concerns and misgivings".

The statement said that with the passage of the new legal framework, 63 communities are being transformed into municipal wards of municipalities , "despite dissent expressed by their community councils and without necessary studies or after consultation with the affected local authorities".

It also notes that the new legal framework for communities does not provide the required administrative autonomy, nor does it specify the amount of financial resources that the State will make available to communities.

The `Union considers that in the coming period these points should be corrected in a way that serves the objectives of the reform, i.e. better services to residents at lower costs and decisions taken as close as possible to the residents.

In any case, the `Union of Cyprus Communities expresses its readiness to work with the other stakeholders in the coming period to take the necessary steps to ensure that our communities, after coalescence, are properly prepared to be able to CNA
