[Cyprus Times] Commissioner Kyriakidou in Malta to promote the vaccination strategy

In Malta as part of the promotion of the vaccination strategy, Commissioner Kyriakidou "Malta is among the countries with the highest vaccination rates with 93%"

Visit to Valletta, Malta, as part of the promotion of the European Union strategy on vaccination, is being visited by Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakidou on Thursday, according to a Commission statement.

Commissioner Kyriakidou will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fern, with whom she will discuss the latest developments in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the EU's vaccine strategy and the progress of vaccination in Malta.

They will also discuss the progress of the Commission's proposals for the European Health Union and the European Cancer Plan.

Commissioner Kyriakidou will then visit the University Gateway Vaccination Centre and the Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre.

In a statement ahead of the visit, Ms Kyriakidou said that Malta is among the countries with the highest vaccination rates, having reached 93% of adults vaccinated, of which 71% have also received a booster dose. Kyriakidou added that as the Omicron variant spreads rapidly increasing the importance of continued vaccination, noting that "it is also important to continue to address the impact of COVID-19 on other major health challenges such as cancer", referring to the EU's planning to fight the disease and that it is part of a wider commitment to create a European Health Union "that protects the health of our citizens" as she said.
