Climate, energy, electricity interconnection discussed by Anastasiades and Sisi in Brussels
Issues related to climate change and energy were discussed at a meeting in Brussels between President Nicos Anastasiades and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the European Union-African Union Summit.
According to a post by President Anastasiades on Twitter, during the meeting, which took place at the office of the Cyprus Delegation in the Council building, the two Presidents discussed, inter alia, issues related to climate change and energy, with specific reference to the EuroAfricaInterconnector project for the interconnection of the Cyprus-Egypt electricity grids (and by extension Egypt and Cyprus with the EU electricity grid following the planned construction of the EuroAsiaInterconnector section connecting Cyprus with Greece).
"Another excellent meeting, this time in Brussels with @PresidentAlSisi of Egypt", the President's post reads.
"We discussed a wide range of issues, including climate and energy, the #EuroAfricaInterconnector, etc." it added.
"Cyprus-Egypt relations will continue to be increasingly strengthened," the post concludes.
Meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister
President Anastasiades also had a meeting with the head of the Moroccan delegation, Foreign Minister Nasser Burita, according to another post on the social network, during which he conveyed "my warmest greetings to A. M. King Mohammed VI of Morocco."
"There is great potential for further development of relations between Cyprus and Morocco, both bilaterally and within the EU," the post added.
