The streets of Kiev are literally "clogged" with traffic jams, as citizens have taken their vehicles and headed as far away as they can.
The city's mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, has ordered a curfew as the Russian invasion of Ukraine is in full swing.
It is noted that martial law has been declared in Ukraine by the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky, who in his address to the Ukrainian people urged citizens to stay home and remain calm.
"The army is working. I will be with you all the time. Stay strong. We will win because we are Ukraine," he said."
The world changed overnight
With air and ground forces raging, the war in Kiev raged just hours after Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday morning. Sirens sounded again in the Ukrainian capital in the afternoon, with troops reportedly laying siege to the city. At the same time, the French agency reports that President Zelensky has informed that Russian forces have seized the capital's military airport.
The war in Ukraine is in full swing with Russian forces invading from various points. Kiev has quickly become a target of attack with panic spreading.
Journalists in the city of Kiev have been asked to be taken to their embassies and then leave the city.
CNN is reporting live from the area with parachutes being discernible on the perimeter.
The Ukrainian National Guard says it has launched a counter-attack. As Western intelligence had predicted, the attack has unfolded quickly, perhaps faster than expected.
Having set up a base of operations, what may be expected is the advance of Russian armor or the use of the base for attacks on Kiev.
