As stated in a statement, we welcome the Central Bank's intervention around the unacceptable and outrageous bank charges. "However, for the Central Bank's interventions to be effective, it is imperative that they are done in collaboration with the Government and are particularly rigorous."
It stresses that banks should have been particularly careful in these decisions. "Apart from the fact that they are backed by the citizens, they should have realized that the excessive charges they are making are strengthening the underground economy while at the same time they are an indirect incentive to increase deposits in the occupied territories which, unfortunately, many of our compatriots are making."
"Given the aforementioned consequences, we call on the Central Bank and the Government to intervene drastically in order to end the banks' promiscuity," he concludes.
