"He continues to attack us while the world is focused on Ukraine," Turkish Foreign Minister defiantly tells CNN Turk
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu fired new shots at Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu told CNN Turk on Monday.
The Greek foreign minister's recent warnings that Turkey should not attempt to exploit the conflict in Ukraine to create a fait accompli in the Aegean Sea and the Eastern Mediterranean have angered Ankara, with Cavusoglu referring to "daily attacks" by Nikos Dendias.
"As I have said before, Dendias's daily attacks on Turkey are a service to his country. He is playing games of domestic politics. When the time is right, we also criticize and give our messages, which we do clearly, but that is another matter. But Nikos Dendias, if he doesn't attack Turkey at least five times a day, he feels incomplete. If he doesn't denounce it five times a day he feels incomplete. Even while people are talking about a country on the other side of the world that has nothing to do with this region, they are denouncing Turkey," Cavusoglu commented, referring to Cyprus and the Aegean and how it is Turkey's attitude that ultimately annoys Greece.
"Turkey's decisive stance in the Eastern Mediterranean may have annoyed them."
"Turkey's decisive stance in the Eastern Mediterranean may have annoyed them. We also changed the parameters in Cyprus which may have annoyed them. On the one hand we have resumed exploratory talks but on the other hand we have not changed our positions in the Aegean. There are problems between us that have not been resolved, these can be discussed or even denounced in other places. But right now, the whole world is focused on Ukraine. In Ukraine there is a tragedy. In Ukraine there is a crisis, there is a war. When everyone is now focused on that, to even benefit from that and attack Turkey is really comical," Cavusoglu said, saying that he had reached... amen and was forced to respond to his Greek counterpart. But this time I couldn't stand it and replied to him. When at a time when the whole world is focused on Ukraine, Nikos Dendias falls into such a situation, it is really sad for me, but I had to respond. I had to give this answer on behalf of Turkey and the Turkish nation. Because he deserved it."
