The central role of Kuwait in the region of Gulf region as well as the challenges that surround the country, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah, in a joint statement following a working breakfast between the 27 EU Foreign Ministers and their Kuwaiti counterpart organised by Mr. At the meeting, which took place ahead of today's Foreign Affairs Council, EU and Kuwaiti Foreign Ministers exchanged views on regional challenges, EU-Kuwait relations and the strengthening of EU cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council ahead of the February ministerial meeting. Kasoulides thanked his Kuwaiti counterpart for his presentation during the breakfast in which he referred to the country's central role "not only geographically but at the heart of peacemaking and promoting understanding for the whole region", as he added "the whole region is so important for the stability of Europe and beyond".
The Kuwaiti Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to his Cypriot counterpart for the invitation and for organizing the working breakfast during which, he said, "we had the opportunity to exchange views on how to strengthen and improve cooperation" between Kuwait and the EU.
The ministers also exchanged views in relation to regional and international challenges, he added.
The Kuwaiti minister further explained that he presented "Kuwait's perspective on the challenges that surround us" and was briefed on the EU partners' engagement with Kuwait and the region "as well as their clear and strong stance on security and stability in the region."
