Campaign in support of Ukraine by Cyprus Collection of food, money and medical supplies "Russia's invasion of Ukraine constitutes a black page for the entire democratic world"

In campaign to support the people of Ukraine, by collecting food, money and medical supplies, the Cyprus Government in cooperation with municipalities and non-governmental organizations, said today the Citizens' Commissioner Mr. Panagiotis Sentonas.

In his statements to journalists at the Strovolos Town Hall, where there is an aid collection point. Sentonas said that "Russia's invasion of Ukraine is a black page for the whole democratic world.

Cyprus stands by the people of Ukraine.

Apart from other actions taken by the Government, yesterday the President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades instructed the opening of a bank account at the Central Bank of Cyprus, to which citizens and organisations can contribute to support the Ukrainian people, through all commercial banks.

A campaign to collect humanitarian aid is also starting today. The whole effort is made in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in constant contact with the Embassy of Ukraine and the whole campaign is carried out in cooperation with all the municipalities of Cyprus and with Non-Governmental Organizations.

At the same time, the Government is making every effort to respond to the request of the Embassy of Ukraine in Cyprus to send materials for medical and pharmaceutical care.

I would like to say a big thank you to the President of the Union of Municipalities and to each of the Mayors who immediately responded to this effort, as well as to the organized groups such as the Pancyprian Coordinating Council for Volunteerism and the Youth Organization".



When asked, he said that "the aid we currently want to collect, in consultation with the Embassy, is dry food, i.e. items that are packaged and can be consumed immediately, long-life items such as cereals, biscuits, powdered baby milk, powdered baby food.

The list along with the collection points will be made public.
