Pressure is rising in Britain's hospitals
Britain recorded 313 deaths from covid-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths from the disease since the start of the pandemic to 150.057.
In addition, according to figures released today, 146,390 new cases of covid-19 were detected in the country in the past 24 hours, down from the record number recorded on Tuesday. However pressure on Britain's hospitals is mounting amid a surge in the outbreak caused by the highly contagious Omicron variant strain of the covovovirus.
Some 1.22 million people were diagnosed positive for covid-19 last week, up 10.6% on the previous week, while the number of deaths rose 38.3% on the previous week to reach 1,271.
