The British depict Russia's "axis of invasion" in Ukraine The British Ministry of Defence has published a map showing the presumed movements of the Russian army.

A map showing the possible movements of the Russian army in case Vladimir Putin decides to invade Ukraine has been published on Twitter by the British Ministry of Defence.

With the title referring to "President Putin's possible axis of invasion", the map shows potential movements of Russian ground forces in two phases.

The first phase could involve an invasion on Ukrainian territory from seven different directions: Two from the north of Ukraine, i.e. from Belarusian territory, one from the northeastern border with Russia, one from the east near Kharkiv, two more possible invasion points in the southeast heading either north or south of Donbass, and one more point starting from Crimea in the south.

The first phase appears to bring Russian troops as far inland as the capital Kiev and/or as far as Dnipro in central Ukraine.

The second phase speculates further occupation towards western Ukraine with bases in either Dnipro or Crimea.

The British Ministry of Defence in this post warns that Russia retains a significant military force "that can conduct an invasion without further notice."

It adds that President Putin may choose to prevent the conflict and keep the peace.
