The measures taken to deal with the pandemic of Covid- 19 affected the traffic in leisure centres, across Cyprus over the festive season, with cancellations in bookings and traffic ranging from 50% to 65%, according to the president of the Paphos Federation of Leisure Centre Owners Associations, Fyto Thrasyvoulou.
In a statement to the Cyprus News Agency, Mr. Thrasyvoulou said that due to the situation, events of companies that were scheduled were cancelled, while some others were not scheduled at all.
He added that an increase in traffic was in the mountain villages of Cyprus with the Christmas villages. Thrasyvoulou, however, said that few people sat down to eat at the recreation centres of the mountain communities, and most ordered take away in the places where they stayed.
The Federation, he continued, "we are following developments in all countries and we have to keep a balance with the business people who are suffering, but also with the Ministry and the epidemiologists."
He concluded by saying that as a tourist country, we have an obligation to keep the pandemic as low as possible for a good tourist season that will allow us to see better days.
