The Ministry of Labour announced that 5 undeclared workers were detected and 5 Notices of Violation and 2 Fines amounting to €5.000, following inspections of industrial premises.
The Inspection Service of the Ministry of Labour Welfare and Social Insurance, as part of its efforts to combat undeclared work and control compliance with basic labour legislation, during the month of January 2022, carried out targeted inspections on a nationwide basis in industries / industrial areas.
Specifically, as reported, inspections were carried out in 197 establishments, where 149 employers and 48 self-employed workers were identified. The total number of workers identified was 413 (347 men and 66 women). In detail, as mentioned, 290 were Greek Cypriots, 75 EU citizens, 45 third country nationals and 3 Turkish Cypriots.
"The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness among all those employed in these economic activities about the consequences of undeclared work and non-compliance with the provisions of the relevant legislation," it said.
It is noted that, according to the provisions of the relevant legislation, if an undeclared person is detected in the Social Security Fund, an administrative fine of €500 multiplied by 7 months is issued, unless it is proven on the part of the employer that the period of violation was shorter. If it is proven that the period of violation was longer, the fine is multiplied by the actual months.
