Around 5:20 in the morning today, members of the Larnaca OPE stopped a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old man for control on the old Larnaca - Nicosia road.
During the ensuing search, 436 cartons of cigarettes of various brands and 121.5 kg of tobacco were found inside the vehicle and seized.
The 51-year-old allegedly admitted that he transported the said tobacco products without paying the newly declared duties.
Subsequently, the 51-year-old was taken to a police station, where an officer of the Customs Department went and, after proceeding with the seizure of the products and the vehicle, issued to the 51-year-old, an extrajudicial notice of payment for the amount of EUR 70,000.
