The lowest temperatures in at least 10 years for the month of March were recorded by the meteorological stations of the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr with the lowest recorded yesterday in Kaimaktsalan with minus 14.9 degrees, then in Parnassos with -12.3 degrees, in Vathystalo Parnassos with -12.1 degrees, followed by Anilios Metsovo with -11.9 degrees. The bad weather "Philip" is in full swing for the second day with light rain, locally heavy snowfall even at low altitudes, moderate and locally strong winds in the Aegean, frost on the mainland, and temperatures dropping in the south, according to meteo.gr.
In more detail, according to the weather forecasts for today, sleet or snow is expected in the coastal areas of Eastern Thessaly, Sterea, Cyclades and Crete, and snowfall in mountainous and semi-mountainous areas. After noon, the weather is expected to worsen with snowfall in many areas of the mainland. Snowfall will be heavy at times until late in the evening in Macedonia, Thessaly, Central Greece and the Peloponnese, with frost in the evening and morning hours on the mainland and in the interior of Crete.
The temperature will range from -10 to 8 degrees in Northern Greece (-10 to 2 degrees in Western Macedonia), -6 to 6 degrees in Central and Southern Greece, -3 to 10 degrees in Western Greece (-3 to 7 degrees in Epirus), 4 to 11 degrees in the Cyclades and Crete, 2 to 10 degrees in the East Aegean islands and 6 to 12 degrees in the Dodecanese.
The winds will blow in the Aegean from northern directions moderate 4-5 Beaufort and locally in the Southeastern Aegean strong 6 Beaufort, while in the Ionian Sea from variable directions light to almost moderate 3-4 Beaufort and early in the morning in the Patraikos Gulf moderate 5 Beaufort.
According to the forecast, scattered snow showers will occur in Attica after noon, even in areas with low altitudes. From the evening, a gradual improvement of the weather is expected, which will be temporary. The winds, northerly and stronger in the east at 5 to 6 Beaufort, will weaken from noon and the temperature will be between 1 and 8 degrees Celsius. In Thessaloniki, as in most areas of Central Macedonia, the day will start with sunshine, but also bitter cold, which will continue throughout the day (from -3 to 8 degrees Celsius). Local clouds will appear from noon mainly in the mountains where snow showers may occur.
