Bad weather traps tourists in Ayios Hilarion, opens main Nicosia-Kyrenia road

Civil defence rescued a group of 15 people, probably foreigners, who, due to heavy snowfall, were trapped in the castle of Agios Hilarion this morning.

The website Kipris Postasi reports that members of the "civil defense" opened the road to the castle and managed to transport the people safely to their place of residence.

Meanwhile, the "police" announced that the Nicosia - Kyrenia road from the height of Ayios Hilarionas to the roundabout at the entrance to the occupied city, which had been closed in the morning hours due to heavy snowfall, has been opened to traffic. Drivers were trapped in their cars, as thick snow had covered everything and icy conditions prevailed.

Earlier, however, the "police" called on people if there is no necessary reason, due to the bad weather conditions, not to go out on the roads and announced a number of roads, mainly in the villages of Pendadaktylou, that are closed to traffic.
