Technology companies investing in Cyprus are looking for Cypriot workers and cannot find them, says Averof Neophytou "We don't have qualified Cypriots in the professions of the present and the future"

The global and Cypriot market needs programmers and technology people, Presidential candidate, President of the Democratic Rally, Averof Neophytou, said after his visit to Murex. He noted that we do not have qualified Cypriots in the professions of the present and the future, which need to be highlighted.

"Today we visited Murex Fintech, a French company that employs around 3,500 people worldwide and decided in the last year and a half to come to Cyprus and open offices. It employs over 140 staff in Cyprus. Almost all of them, with salaries of over 55,000 euros a year," he said.

"They are looking for Cypriots to employ them. Unfortunately, we do not have qualified Cypriots in the professions of the present and the future," Neophytou said. "We are in the fourth industrial revolution. What the global and Cypriot market needs are programmers, technology people," he said.

Neophytou said that Cyprus in 2021 was the first in the world in terms of foreign investment growth, while in 2022 it was among the 10 countries with the largest foreign investments, in proportion to its size.

"We have in Cyprus more than 200 technology companies. With more than 15,000 employees, all of whom are invariably highly paid. We can build an even better Cyprus, relying also on the Recovery and Resilience Fund," he noted.

But for this course to continue there is one condition, he said: to ensure the economic stability of our country. "Without economic stability, no one will choose our country for their investments," he said.

We, he added, "are confident, we know, we have confidence, we can manage to keep our country on the steady path of growth, with further opportunities for foreign investment, necessary to strengthen the economy, but also to open up jobs that offer high wages. Optimistic about tomorrow, optimistic about the future of our country."
